Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Grant

Grant Application (pdf)

2008 Spring Summer Awardees

Purpose:
The Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Grant enhances opportunities for you to participate in research and creative activities under the guidance of faculty. You can submit proposals for projects sponsored by faculty with whom you will collaborate. Research projects focus on developing and testing a hypothesis or theory using methods relevant to one or more the academic discipline(s). Creative projects develop new materials -- artistic, literary, educational or physical -- by methods other than those traditionally considered “research.”

Funding:
OUR funds proposals at a maximum of $3,050 each. Up to $2,300 is available for students. When more than one student is involved, funding will be divided between or among the students as indicated in the project's budget. Projects can involve up to three undergraduates working with one faculty mentor.

Although faculty may mentor more than one project, the maximum payout is $750 per cycle.

Deadline:
Proposals must be submitted to Office of Undergraduate Research, 2100 UGL, by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2008.
Funding decisions will be announced in April.

Conditions:

  1. Research must begin in the spring/summer 2008 semester and be completed by the end of the fall 2008 semester.
  2. Faculty mentors must submit a brief progress report describing the student’s work by July 25, 2008.
  3. Students must submit a final report on the research project to OUR by Dec. 17, 2008. The report, reviewed and signed by the faculty mentor, can be no longer than five pages. It must describe the project’s outcome and the roles of the student(s) and the faculty sponsor.
  4. Funded students must apply to present at the WSU Undergraduate Research Conference on Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, and, if selected, MUST present and participate.
